FMP: Birdcage

For the birdcage, I used Mainly reference image 2 and also got some ideas out of reference image 1 to create more of a fancy type of look. This birdcage would be hanging off the wall just like the wall lanterns I had made but then a bit lower so a person could look into the birdcage. The frame of the cage was made of quite a similar design which leads to reference image 2. Together I also made the wall mount quite similar to that of the wall lanterns.

The further I am in this project the more I learn how to fastly model somewhat more complex shapes. I have Focused mainly on creating hard surface meshes where the wireframe is perfectly sorted. Throughout this whole process in my FMP, I have gained many different abilities to use Maya as it is supposed to be used.

FMP: Desk

For the Desk, I decided to use the same design for the legs of the table as I had done with the Coffee table to keep the same style going. I also used two references that were quite similar to each other. I created all the drawers and then also decided on the drawer handles to be like those in reference image 2

FMP: Coffee Table

For the Coffee table I first started off by this idea of using a suit case as the design of the coffee table. (see reference 1). While making the design in maya it did not feel like the right step to do and was thus far not working out for me in total. So I decided to re-evaluate my decision and look at some more references on pinterest. Then I came across the Reference images 2 and 3 that you can view below this text.

Using the references 2 and 3 I created the coffee table in Maya. I Used reference 2 mainly to create the leg for the coffee table and I also ended up adding a little drawer to the table to give it some extra attention to detail. Below this text you can also view the UV I did on the table, For most of the models I have done so far I have also already made them UV-ready so that when I have done all the modeling I can immediately go on to texturing.

FMP: Chess

For the chess board I went with a simple chess board design that could be placed on the coffee table near the fire place. pointing to how the protagonist used to play chess in his study room. For this I used reference image 2 to create all the pieces on the board. These are common design pieces used for a chess board. I made a set of all the pieces and the spreaded them out over the chess board in a way that it would be set during a game (the Evergreen game)

FMP: Fire Place

Next, I moved on to a bigger asset that defines a lot of the space in the scene. For this asset, I found a Blender timelapse of a fireplace that I found perfect for the scene (only the textures I would do differently). So I looked at different parts in the Timelapse and tried to recreate this in Maya. (due to it being made in a blender in the timelapse I needed to find a different way of creating for a lot of the parts).

I went element by element to create the whole fireplace. As shown in the blender timelapse they also have these fancy spiral ornaments on the walls but I decided that that was a little bit to Kitsch for my liking and would give the whole scene a different aesthetic. I also want to texture it where these elements look a bit older so using those golden spirals would distract from my goal.

FMP: World Globe

For the world globe, I took inspiration from this one image (reference 1). I really liked the design on this globe and would be nicely placed on the desk table in my scene. I only decided not to implement the compass that is built in at the bottom of the globe. Since I think the scene has a lot of elements already and the globe by itself would be enough for the scene.

FMP: Wall Lanterns

To create the wall lantern that I wanted for my study room I have used 2 of the reference images that I had put in my padlet (LINK TO PADLET). The two references I have chosen have similar aesthetics to play around with. I ended up using more of the lamp frame from reference 2 and more of what is mounted to the wall from reference one. You can see this also in the process below.

I started off by doing the base body of the lantern. I did this using the simple process of a Cylinder shape in- and extruding this to create the lantern’s top and bottom parts. After this, I started to create a copy of the pattern that is shown in the glass of Reference 2. And lastely I created the wall mounted element that you can see in the last images in this post

FMP: Piano Chair

After doing the desk chair I was still in the mindset of doing the Chairs and decided to go for the Piano chair. During all these model making I have also been busy with the piano itself but unfortunately can not conclude on a design I want (this will be discussed in the piano blog post). I had this as well a little with the piano chair. I first decided on the first reference image (see left image below) but while modeling this, it was not really what I was going for, and then Picked a different reference (see reference 2). This reference was going well for me and I decided it fitted the room better.

FMP: Desk Chair

In my latest project I have done a chair and a couch, although these assets where more chill area couch and chair I have learned quite a bit on how to model these kind of assets. So for this part I started doing the desk chair asset. Which took me a bit since I wanted the frame to be made out of 1 mesh.

I started with the legs doing these one by one and using duplicate special all around to get the same type of leg for this model. I used separate part to do the arm and backrest and then combined these together where as I am quite happy with the results. As you can see on the image above and then below there is a slight change in the design of the leg part.

FMP: Staircase

For the staircase I found a few reference images and so far the right one below this text really stood out to me. so I decided to Start modelling this staircase which in the end was quite difficult to model.

I started off by doing the circled shapes that hold up he stair steps an make the platform. throughout the modelling process I every so often duplicated them to create the stairs to see how it is looking in it’s general shape. While doing this I really had to trust the process due to the fact that I had many doubts going through this model. but besides those doubts I kept on modelling and after started doing the holds for the hand rails as shown in the images below.

I delayed working on this stairs for quite some bit but still came back to it to finish it. It was in the processing stage for quite some while due to the fact that I needed to take a step back to look at it again. After this little while I came back and finished it quite fast. This model really learned me some new techniques that I will be holding on to for my next model.
