Creating the pillars

For my personal project I decided to go more towards the second previsualisation I made which included a lot of pillars which some of them were broken and some where still a whole. So for now I decided to start creating a base low poly pillar. As you can see in the reference images a temple normally has a lot of pillars that all look the same. So I have to create one pillar for the scene which I can re-use for over the scene.

Using these reference images I started off creating my Pillar, first I created these pillar blocks that are pieces that are stacked on top of each other. Then I started working on the foot of the pillar, as shown in the references a lot of parts have different types of engravings on it. These engravings I will back on the model in ZBrush so this will be on a later stage in my process. Lastly I created a center piece that will be the in between part of the mirrored pillar.

As seen here I used the foot and the pillar blocks and mirrored them to also be on the top part of the pillar. For the pillar blocks I scaled the different vertexes to create a more round shape going up. Then I placed the Center piece in the middle.

This is the basic outline of the pillars I will be using for this project. The next step will be that I will create different engravings on the more flatter parts. You can see examples of these engravings on the reference images at the top of this block. After doing these engravings I will Try and simulate the pillars to be broken in different ways, some will have holes in them and some will be cut in half.

Previs personal project

For the project I will start off by designing the specific ‘temple’ I want to make

First I made a pre-visualization of a temple building inspired on a few of the images above. I tried to work with the pillars being a part of the wall and in my head the person that is going to be composited in the image they would be walking on the stairs. This is only a previs so not highly detailed to show an image I had in my head. Working on this previs I was not really satisfied with the outcome. The building is too square and it also does not look like a ruin. As for the stairs part I am still thinking of implementing this in the final result.

For my second image I focused more on the destroyed part so I could kind of get my visualization right. In this pre-visualization. I played around with pillars and tried to make them look a bit destroyed. When looking back at my inspiration I used the top to images to create the simple pillar look. This would be more looking towards what I want to create for the temple.

Start of Personal Project

These are the images from my personal project presentation I did in class. Starting off discussing what I will be focusing on during my personal project over this term.

My starting idea came from focusing on a few things. One of these things was that I wanted to focus on my ability to model and create in Maya. This would include modeling and the texturing, but mainly focus on the modelling. In my vision I wanted to create something large of scale something that would make a human look small compared to, this should be well visualized by using the cameras perspective in the scene. So to finish the scene I want to add a small detail of compositing, implementing in a real person in the overall look with small movements.

Throughout this presentation I have showed different reference images to picture what kind of style I want and what I want to make. I started off by showing a few of Huleeb’s work, I choose their work as a reference to show off the ambiance and ‘vibe’ I want my scene to have.

For this project I decided to create a big temple where the person would be standing in front of. this temple would have the slightest movements of rocks falling down and the person in the front moving. So also for the temple I showed reference images in this presentation for what type of temple/runes I want to create.

at the last image of my presentation I showed the reference images of this artist that created the slightest of movements in the video they created. Here are the links to the videos: REDROOM & GREENROOM
